直伝 - Inspire Humanity through the Power of Budo
SO BUDO KAI
We practice and promote the classical Japanese, as well as, Okinawan martial art discipline, strategy, and culture known as Budo. By applying the "Framework of Life" that Budo fosters, we are dedicated to building a better future.
So Budo Kai is an international martial arts organization, represented by five independent dojos, with its own art form, lineage and license. Karate Do, Jodo, Iaido, Okinawa Kobudo and Aikido.
"So" which appears in So Budo Kai means all-encompassing. Budo is mentioned above and Kai is association or meetings. Thus, So Budo Kai is an "Association for a Comprehensive system of Budo."
CHINTOKAN
First art form and the foundation of So Budo Kai is "Chintokan" Okinawa Shorin Ryu Traditional Karate Do. It was originally established in 1962, Osaka, Japan, by Soke Masaharu Sakimukai.
Then two decades later, Soke Masaharu Sakimukai added three independent Budo to the Chintokan Dojo: 1) "Beikoku Shudokai" Shindo Muso Ryu Jodo / Jojutsu, 2) "Kenbukan Iaido" - Mugai Ryu Iaiheido, and 3) "Ryukyu Kobudo Kai" Okinawa weaponry. Thus, So Budo Kai brand was created to represent these four dojo.
Lastly, in March 2015, after five preparatory years, a fifth Budo "Fudo no Nami Aikido" officially joined the So Budo Kai family.

So Budo Kai is a hybrid of Koryu Bujutsu (ancient combat system), Budo (civil self defense, character development and spiritual cultivation) and Gendai Budo (modern sport and physical culture). Mixing martial arts is certainly not new; cultures across the world, including Okinawa, have been doing so for many centuries.
We do not, however, mix our curricula. Training in a few different martial arts styles and keeping curricula separate is also not new, as this was the way for many of the samurai warriors in ancient Japan.

How are we different?
Simply described, we place the highest regard on Soke Masaharu Sakimukai’s maxim; “Train the INSIDE first, then the OUTSIDE, and then what is outside is ART” reinforced by the traditional Karate Do creed known as “Kun” or “Go-Kun” for us, as well as, Shindo Muso Ryu Jojutsu and Mugai Ryu Iai-Heido Reiho (Samurai Etiquette) principles. Ultimately, we aim to develop a strong mind, spirit and body through our traditioal and modern curricula based on these disciplines. Thus, we uphold "Respect" at the heart of our training.
Furthermore, we reinforce the mindset of the "Dignity of the Weapons" -- hands & feet included to all members of our dojo, for whom we provide weapon training. We believe it is very dangerous to hand a weapon to someone who lacks the discipline, self-worth, and understanding of the formality of the weapons.
They may not plan to hurt anyone themselves, nevertheless if they don't understand these principles, then they may take these rules too lightly and err in their judgement. Our system contains the necessary fundamentals to keep us on the right path.
